Our philosophy
Our Environmental Policy sets out our general philosophy and the specific areas of the business where we have already implemented environmentally friendly, sustainable procedures, as well as others with potential for future improvement.
HEC Logistics is fully aware of the importance of environmental issues. We have a firm commitment and sense of responsibility towards the environment, and we aim to minimise the impact of our activities on our surroundings.
Reducing paper and improving efficiency
We aim to keep our business as paper-free as possible, using modern e-workflow and server technology to keep paper use to an absolute minimum. We work closely with our suppliers to transact electronically — purchase orders, confirmations, invoices, payments, remittances and statements are all handled electronically wherever possible.
We work equally hard to encourage our customers to work in this way, converting faxes to email and encouraging electronic communication, which improves efficiency and traceability, reduces costs, and reduces our collective carbon footprint.
Our vehicles
All of our vehicles are purchased with environmental protection features such as low emissions and low noise output. We train all staff to operate efficiently and to improve loading and route planning wherever possible, reducing the number of vehicles making unnecessary journeys.
To minimise the environmental impact of our activities and services, we will:
- Continue to drive down environmental impact through the consolidation of freight — maximising vehicle utilisation and reducing empty running.
- Operate a strict e-trading policy to eliminate paper from our business wherever possible.
- Run modern vehicles that conform to current European emissions standards, replacing trucks on a regular renewal cycle.
- Fit all vehicles with vehicle trackers, helping our transport managers allocate work efficiently and reduce empty running.
- Use vehicles with exhaust systems designed to minimise nitrogen oxide and particulate emissions.
- Maintain a sustainable procurement strategy, using socially preferable materials and solutions wherever possible.
- Comply with all applicable legal and other requirements relating to our environmental aspects.
- Prevent pollution, reduce waste and minimise resource consumption through continual improvement of our technologies.
- Educate, train and motivate employees to carry out their tasks in an environmentally responsible manner.
- Encourage environmental protection among our suppliers and partner distribution companies.
- Recycle packaging from our warehouse and oils from our workshop.
- Segregate all recyclable waste at source.
The Company is committed to the continual improvement of its environmental performance, and this policy is reviewed annually and as required.
